Because of the the tiny dangling feet, I think of this painting as "Three Ladies on a Chairlift." Buried in the paint are references to orientalism, from Buddhas to china plates decorated in Chinese Chippendale motifs. There is a fragment of an antique card advertising a child prostitute famous for her miniature feet, all overwhelmed by the suggestion of an enclosed Chinese marriage bed. The lady in green and gold looks like my mother.
