Vermont has been at the forefront of the same-sex marriage debate, a cause I embrace for many reasons, none as trivial as the one I have pictured here. I would like for this to be a picture of my civil union (what we have now; not quite equal, not quite a marriage) except I have a husband and only want a wife because I am so impaired in my domestic abilities.
So here she is, just out of the box. I carry her across the threshold to the kitchen where she can get started on dinner.
I worked on this more after the photo was taken, softening the dark lines diagraming a device from an old magic show. It was used to make a woman appear to levitate before your eyes.
