I'd watched a news report showing orderlies wheeling bodies on gurneys down a hospital ramp to an awaiting truck. Protected only by gloves, they lifted the dead onto the truck before energetically scrubbing each gurney with little spray bottles and rags.
I was painfully struck by the selfless courage of all the millions of workers risking their own lives to dignify and protect the lives of others, repaid with shockingly low wages.
